iStore Launches Crisis Management Tool for Petroleum Industry HOUSTON- September 22, 2008 - The Information Store (iStore) announces the release of its Event Management Solution (EMS) for the PetroTrek Digital Oilfield platform. EMS gives oil and gas business managers the operational information and situational awareness they need to manage critical situations, such as hurricanes, flooding, earthquakes and other events, which impact people and production. iStore's new solution offering enables oil and gas companies to rapidly assess and respond to events that impact the performance of producing assets. EMS allows planning teams to forecast the path of severe weather in order to proactively protect facilities, human resources and other assets as well as to re-route critical business systems and minimize downtime. EMS places employees, assets and data in context of the environmental situation, enabling faster, more informed responses in the face of a crisis. The secure, Web-based solution combines a wide spectrum of essential information, including threat assessments, maps of impacted areas, weather, facilities, and production data. EMS integrates data from across the enterprise, from corporate databases and HR systems to live weather feeds and analysis from third party providers, delivering a single, actionable planning tool. “We are excited about the launch of iStore's Event Management Solution. The combined benefit of iStore's technology platform with a wealth of data and analysis, such as live weather and satellite imagery, will allow oil and gas managers to move from evaluating events after the fact to forecasting events and taking the necessary protective actions,” said Barry Irani, president of The Information Store. “We developed this product as the result of requests from our customers and this year's busy hurricane season in the Gulf of Mexico is an example of the types of events that they are seeking to manage. The value of knowing where personnel are and getting them out of harm's way is simply immeasurable during a situation such as Hurricane Ike,” Irani added. EMS utilizes Microsoft Virtual Earth and the Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 collaborative environment. SharePoint Server enables oil and gas operators to streamline work processes with the ability to find, use and share live information and easily locate the right expert to make critical decisions. The solution also connects to several Microsoft SQL Server databases that the EMS client has in use. “In the oil and gas industry every second counts. With the integration of Microsoft enterprise technology like SharePoint Server and Virtual Earth, iStore's Event Management Solution is fully equipped to allow oil and gas business managers to make mission-critical decisions in real time,” said Craig Hodges, U.S. energy and chemicals director for Microsoft. “The solution enables operators to collaborate in shaping their response to a crisis and protect necessary assets, especially people.” In addition to Microsoft Virtual Earth, the PetroTrek Event Management Solution is compatible with many open source Web GIS frameworks.
